History

Hotel GRAND Tábor is one of the oldest hotels in the town. The earliest record of the hotel comes from 1835, when it was called the Hotel Suchomel. In 1893 the establishment was bought by a certain Mr Nový, later in 1926 by the couple JUDr. Karel and Alžběta Fink. It was given the name GRAND and leased to a hotelier by the name of Velimský. At that time, it became the largest hotel in Tábor, boasting 80 rooms fitted out in Art Nouveau style.

The hotel was visited by numerous important figures. Among them was the Mayor of Chicago, Antonín Čermák, who stayed here in 1932.

During the Second World War it was confiscated by the German occupiers since the owner, JUDr. Fink, was fighting in the resistance abroad. In 1952 the building was nationalised.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the hotel was awarded – in a ruinous state – to the daughter and son of JUDr. Fink as restitution. The family transferred the building into the assets of a company, with the aiming to reconstruct it. Unfortunately, one of the partners got into trouble financially and the company was forced into bankruptcy. After many years of legal wrangling, in 2007 the completely devastated and highly indebted building was returned to its current owner, Karel Fink, grandson of the original owner.

After renovation in 2008, part of the building reopened. The hotel is run by the owner and two of his three daughters, with considerable help from a collective of loyal colleagues. By taking an individual approach to each guest we are trying to evoke the peaceful atmosphere of a First Republic family-run hotel. This attempt is enhanced by the use of the antique furniture with which the hotel is partly furnished, and by the period photographs. In terms of furniture and fittings, every room is a true original! The atmosphere is completed by the Art-Nouveau style café.

The Grand Tábor is certified by the Czech Association of Hotels and Restaurants and offers comfortable accommodation in 14 rooms and 2 four-bed apartments. Its central location and own car-park are clear advantages. Under the “Cyclists Welcome” scheme, the hotel offers secure bike storage, tool hire, cycle maps etc.

If you’re visiting Tábor, come and experience the special atmosphere of the hotel. It’s best to book accommodation in advance, however: during the summer months the hotel can get very busy.
